While the suffering played a major part of their trip, Liberal MP John McKay said hope and potential were equally evident amongst these Kenyans. "From the absolutely remarkable people that we've met, to the people who won't survive another day. That was our trip this week. Bouncing back from hope to despair," said McKay, who is pushing through a private member's bill in parliament which would focus Canada's official development assistance on poverty alleviation. McKay said this trip to Kenya allowed him to see the people and the programs that his bill, C-293, would actually affect.

John McKay, M.P., has been chosen to serve the Liberal Caucus in the key role of Chair of Caucus Committee on Economic Prosperity. Mr. McKay is also a Member of Dion's new Priorities and Planning Committee which will be chaired by Mr. Dion and Deputy Leader Michael Ignatieff.
