Hon. John McKay on Re-Election for Fifth Term as Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Guildwood
Tuesday, October 21, 2008
On October 14 the Honourable John McKay MP was re-elected to represent the people of Scarborough-Guildwood in the House of Commons. This will be Mr. McKay’s fifth consecutive term serving the riding.
Said McKay: “I am deeply honoured to be elected once again by the constituents of this great riding. They have shown me incredible support throughout these past eleven years and I will continue to work hard on their behalf to strengthen our community and our country. I would also like to sincerely thank the many volunteers who supported me during the campaign. Without their efforts running a campaign would be impossible.”
Given the current economic climate the focus of the next Parliament will have to be on strengthening the economy and returning Canada to a position of fiscal security.
“The federal government will likely be looking at tougher economic times ahead and possibly a deficit. All of the parties in the new minority Parliament will have to work together to ensure that Canada is able to navigate through these rough waters.”
John McKay was easily re-elected with 18,098 of 36,075 valid ballots cast, or 50.2% of the vote.
“I look forward to serving the good people of Scarborough-Guildwood during Canada’s 40th Parliament. Please contact my constituency office if you need any assistance, want to talk politics or just want to say hello.”
